James 1:26-27

James 1:26-27
26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

When I read this it makes me think of a disobedient child or immature person who runs at the mouth when 1. they're told not to 2. when their comments are not welcomed 3. when what they say doesn't better the person(s) and/or conversations. One of the fruits of the spirit is self-control so as a CF were expected to exercise that. Previously in this chapter we were told to be slow to anger & slow to speak which also has to do with self control (and the tongue). people who are impulsive do not think things out and if they don't do that then they're also not taking into account anyone else feelings or thoughts resulting in them acting out of selfishness which is not from God. So if anyone thinks he is religious - living by God's laws -he would need to practice self control and selflessness. Orphans and widows come upon their situation by no fault of their own and technically have no one to care for them. If we are to be Christ-like and be CF then we would want to or at least should. Being born again means need God's help to do life & that we cannot do it ourselves.
